On Thursday 6th June 2024, KORO hosted an open seminar at the National Museum in Oslo where ten artists/architects/groups presented their ideas for a new National Memorial at the new Government Quarter.

On Friday 6th September 2024, the jury announced that the following three projects is selected to participate in the second part of the process to establish the National Memorial:

A K Dolven and Cathrine Vigander
The visual artist A K Dolven (b. 1953) has created several public works during her long international career. The architect Cathrine Vigander (b. 1967) is a partner at the architectural firm ELEMENT.
Merete Røstad and Jad El Khoury
Røstad+Khoury’s transdisciplinary approach builds a bridge between art, architecture, and artistic research. Through their collaboration, the artist Merete Røstad (b. 1975) and artist/architect Jad El Khoury (b. 1988) seek to strengthen the social significance of public art.
Matias Faldbakken
The visual artist Matias Faldbakken (b. 1973) represented Norway at the Venice Biennale in 2005 and has carried out major public art commissions for, among others, the Norwegian Scenic Routes project (Rondane), the Parc de Tuileries in Paris, and the Bass Museum of Art in Miami. He is also an award-winning author.
Marianne Heier
The visual artist Marianne Heier (b. 1969) often takes her cue from questions about democracy and the distribution of resources and power. She has previously created public artworks for KORO, the Norwegian Scenic Routes project, and Radar, and in 2012 she was a featured artist at the Bergen International Festival.
Henning Sunde, Hanne Tyrmi and Rainer Stange
The architect Henning Sunde (b. 1977) is the co‑founder and creative director of Rodeo Architects. The visual artist Hanne Tyrmi (b. 1954) is known for her monumental sculpture installations. The landscape architect Rainer Stange (b. 1964) is a co‑founder of the architectural firm Bokemo.
Anna Daniell
The visual artist Anna Daniell (b. 1978) has spent the past twenty years working on the potential and function of sculptures by exploring new contexts for how they can be produced and displayed. She has created several permanent public works of art, including ones for Oslo City Hall.
Beate Hølmebakk and Per Tamsen
The architects Beate Hølmebakk (b. 1963) and Per Tamsen (b. 1967) have run the architectural firm Manthey Kula since 2004. Their projects include a design for the national memorial site at the Utøya pier in collaboration with the Belgian landscape architect Bas Smets.
Raqs Media Collective
The New Delhi-based Raqs Media Collective consists of Jeebesh Bagchi (b. 1965), Monica Narula (b. 1969), and Shuddhabrata Sengupta (b. 1968). For three decades they have worked internationally as artists and curators, and their public works include ones for the Goethe University Frankfurt and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Sumayya Vally and Suzanne Lacy
Sumayya Vally (b. 1990) is the founder of the firm Counterspace and is the youngest architect to have designed the Serpentine Pavilion in London. The artist and theorist Suzanne Lacy (b. 1945) is regarded as a pioneer within socially engaged and public performance art.
Kjetil Trædal Thorsen and Jorunn Sannes
The architect Kjetil Trædal Thorsen (b. 1958) is a co‑founder of the architectural firm Snøhetta. The artist Jorunn Sannes (b. 1960) has created public art for several of the firm’s high-profile projects, including the roof of the Oslo Opera House and the façade of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt.
