Join us for a celebration of art in the new Government Quarter!
On Saturday, June 6, we invite you to a public celebration of art in the new Government Quarter in Oslo. The program includes music, art, performance, and theatre. The event is free and open to everyone.
Please note that the programme will be mainly in Norwegian.
KORO has been planning and producing the art projects for the new Government Quarter over the last six years, and this past winter and spring, nearly 300 artworks by around 150 artists have been installed. That calls for a celebration! KORO therefore invites the public to an outdoor celebration on Saturday, June 6, from 1 PM to 5 PM.
Renown Sámi artist Mari Boine has been specially invited by KORO to sing in honour of the art projects, and for the occasion the public will have the unique opportunity to see Outi Pieski’s new commission AAhkA from the inside. The building is normally closed to the public, and due to security restrictions, there are only a limited number of places available. NB, access to AAhkA is unfortunately already fully booked.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet some of the artists behind the major artworks outdoors.
Curious about where stones come from in Jumana Manna’s Sebastia, the relocation of works such as Do Ho Suh’s Grass Roots Square and Pablo Picassos The Fishermen, or stories behind other artworks in the Government Quarter? Then you’re welcome to come and speak with an artist and KOROs team of curators, conservators, and mediators.
We will also open the doors to Otobong Nkanga’s textile and sculpture work Morning Glory – Where one Lingers (2025/26).
An excerpt of the performance Sun Eaters by Jassem Hindi has been specially developed for this day. Sun Eaters can be described as a deconstructed version of folk dance, revealing the political and healing functions that folk dance holds within society.
The celebration will conclude with the premiere of artist and director Pernille Mercury Lindstad’s new theatre piece The Weight of a Demonstration (in Norwegian), featuring a new score by composer Marcus Paus. The work was created especially for KORO and forms part of the art project for the Government Quarter. The performance lasts 60 minutes. Read more about the performance in the article linked here.
